Go on a private tour of Anuradhapura’s Atmasthana, or Eight Sacred Places, with this private tour that comes with hotel pick up/drop off by tuk-tuk. The first stop is the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, a bo-tree that is said to be the southern branch of the Sri Maha Bodhi under which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. Continue to Ruwaneeliseya, a hemispherical monument that houses various relics, and Thuparamaya which was the first Buddhist temple in Sri Lanka. Discover the ruins of Lowamahapaya which was home to over 1,000 monks and attendants, then head to the impressive monastery of Abhayagiriya. Be amazed by the Jethawanaramaya - the world’s tallest stupa when it was constructed - before rounding out the eight places with the Mirisawetiya and Lankaramaya stupas. The tour doesn’t stop there, because you’ll be visiting four other religious sites as well. Head to the temple of Isurumuniya, the Kuttam Pokuna bathing pool, the beautifully-carved Samadhi Statue, and the elaborate Sandakada Pahana or moon-stone. At the end of the tour, hop back on the tuk-tuk so you can return to your Anuradhapura hotel safe and sound.
