Start your adventure with a visit to Prison Island, just a half-hour from Stone Town. Famous for its giant tortoises, which have been residing there since 1919 after being brought from Aldabra Seychelles, the island is also a great spot for snorkeling and sunbathing. Once a quarantine station, it later became the site for a prison built by the British in the 1890s, though the prison was never used.
Stone Town
The Stone Town is known for a historical walk through this UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore iconic landmarks such as the Old Market, established in 1903, with sections dedicated to fish, meat, vegetables, fruits, and spices. Visit notable sites including the House of Wonders (National Museum), Tippu Tip House, the former English Club (Africa House), and the Old Fort. Stroll through charming alleys, admire unique doors and wooden balconies, and visit the Palace Museum, Old Dispensary, and, if you choose, the Former Slave Market.
