The Holy Year, or Jubilee, finds its origins in ancient biblical traditions of renewal observed every 50 years. It was formally established in 1300 by Pope Boniface VIII as a time for spiritual renewal and indulgences. Over the centuries, the tradition evolved, and since 1470, the Holy Year has been celebrated every 25 years, offering the faithful regular opportunities for grace and reflection. These occasions have drawn millions of pilgrims to Rome, becoming pivotal moments of faith and celebration. The Holy Door takes on a special significance: it is the most powerful sign of the Jubilee, since the ultimate aim of the pilgrim is to pass through it. Important: while planning please reserve at least 2 hours for the experience. On busy days (important religious events, Papal audiences on Wednesdays, weekends ) experience may take longer than planned.
