Himeji Castle
Himeji Castle, also known as White Heron Castle (Shirasagijo) due to its elegant, white appearance, is widely considered Japan's most spectacular castle for its imposing size and beauty and its well preserved, complex castle grounds. The castle is both a national treasure and a world heritage site. Unlike many other Japanese castles, it was never destroyed by war, earthquake or fire and survives to this day as one of the country's twelve original castles.
Kokoen Garden
Kokoen Garden is a relatively recently constructed Japanese style garden, which was opened in 1992 on the former site of the feudal lord's west residence (Nishi-Oyashiki). It consists of nine separate, walled gardens designed in various styles of the Edo Period.
Nadagiku Sake Brewery
This sake brewery located in 1 Chome, Tegara, Himeji City was established in 1910. Their fine Nadagiku brew and other products are renowned at home and abroad. They make their sake with carefully selected brewing rice grown in the prefecture, including Hyogo Yumenishiki, a special product of Nishiharima. You can visit their wooden sake storehouse that remains as it was when the brewery was founded, as well as view brewing equipment and panel displays on the modern sake making process. They hold tastings in their shop, and have a restaurant, too.
Shoshazan Engyoji Temple
Shoshazan Engyoji Temple is a must-visit sightseeing destination located near Himeji Castle. Located on top of Mt. Shosha, the temple has attracted filmmakers from worldwide.
It has appeared in films such as “The Last Samurai,” featuring the Hollywood movie star Tom Cruise, and “The Assassin,” which won the best director award at the Cannes Film Festival.
Fish Cake factory Yumesenkan
The first floor has a demonstration fried chicken sales corner, sales of Sacchan goods, exhibition of products made in the field, and sale of souvenirs. The second floor is a gallery space and rest area, recommended for purchasing souvenirs.
