Malmö is in the midst of a rapid and exciting development which means that we can undoubtedly speak of the New Malmö. The city, which in its heyday was one of the country's most industrialized, is today rather a multicultural melting pot with a movement and power that is unique, where much of the old is taken advantage of and merges with the new. A new city takes shape, new buildings create new neighborhoods and become symbols of Malmö's rapid change from an industrial city to a green, global and urban knowledge city. Here is a tour for those of you who are interested in the environment and sustainability. The goal for the city of Malmö is to become a global role model for sustainable urban development with neighborhoods such as Hyllie and Västra Hamnen at the forefront.
On our tour through New Malmö, we look at Malmö's successful sustainability work by visiting, the Shipyard, the Western Port, with lunch at Malmö Saluhall, Sjöstaden and Kalkbrottet.
First stop will be the western harbor. A sustainable district with green roofs and solar panels, along with green yards and smart solutions. Also, on the tour is Oh Boy Hotel; The world’s first bicycle hotel. You will also see the Turning Torso.
Next up you will visit the Castle garden as well as the castle windmill. A small garden with local and healthy vegetables and berries. There will an option to taste some of the local products. You will also stop by the fishing huts. Fish from local fishermen in a unique environment. Taste stop and Storytelling with the option to shop as well.
Next up you will visit the Marine knowledgecentre located on the Ribersborgsbeach. Here you will learn about the ocean and future sustainability goals for Malmö.
