Elephanta Caves are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a collection of cave temples predominantly dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. They are located on Elephanta Island, or Gharapuri in Mumbai Harbour, 10 kilometres to the east of the city of Mumbai in the Indian state of Mahārāshtra.
Trimurti is the most renowned sculpture in mandapa of the Great Cave is Trimurti (Trimurthy) – sculpture with three faces of Shiva. It is located on the south wall of mandapa and is 6.1 m high. Trimurti resembles a Trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh (Shiva) – royal insignia of Rashtrakutas.

Information Related to Elephanta Caves: Approach to Caves: To reach Elephanta it takes 1 Hrs 30 Min in Ferrry from Gateway of India and there are 120 staircases to Elephanta caves. Same it will take 1 Hrs 30 Min return to reach Gateway of India. Elephanta Boat Timing: The first boat for Elephanta leaves the Gateway of India ferry point at 9 am. The first return boat leaves from Elephanta Island at 12 noon and the last return boat leaves at 5.30 pm from Elephanta. Elephanta Caves is open 6 days a week. Only Closed on Monday. Season: Elephanta is open throughout the year. Winter months (November to February) are pleasant. Avoid peak monsoon season (June to August) as boat schedules could get interrupted due to the rough seas and heavy rain.
