Royal Botanical Gardens
Peradeniya Botanical Garden, located just 6 km from Kandy, is Sri Lanka’s largest and most impressive botanical garden. Originally a royal pleasure garden, it was formally established as a botanical garden during British rule in 1821. Spanning over 147 acres, it is home to more than 4,000 species of plants, including rare orchids, spices, medicinal plants, and giant trees. The garden is especially famous for its long palm avenues, beautiful orchid house, and the massive Java fig tree.
