Gather at the main entrance of the park. Mehrauli Archaeological Park is a space rich both in history and tranquility. Covering an area of close to 200 acres, it is one of the oldest areas in Delhi. You will see all of the important excavated remains tracing them through history and taking you to the times of Khalji, Tughlaq, and Lodhi dynasties moving on to the reign of the Mughals and British colonization.
Begin the tour with Balban's Tomb, one of the earliest tombs in the region. The tomb reflects a simple and sturdy architectural style, characterized by a massive stone structure with a flat roof. The use of local grey quartzite adds to the tomb's robust appearance. One notable feature is the absence of a dome, a departure from the typical architectural style of the time.
Walk towards Jahaz Mahal, also known as the Ship Palace. Visitors to Jahaz Mahal can soak in the historical ambiance, explore the sprawling courtyards, and envision the royal life that once graced these hallowed grounds. The gorgeous environment, along with the architectural beauty, make Jahaz Mahal a must-see site for history buffs and lovers of India's rich cultural heritage.
