Located approximately 48 kilometers north of Amman, it is accessible by bus or taxi. Founded in the 2nd century BC, the city thrived during Roman rule, becoming a significant hub for trade and commerce. Its exceptional ruins include temples, theaters, baths, and colonnaded streets. Key attractions in Jerash include: The Arch of Hadrian: Erected in 129 AD, this triumphal arch honors the visit of the Roman emperor Hadrian. The Temple of Artemis: Dedicated to the Greek goddess Artemis, this is among the largest and best-preserved Roman temples in the Middle East. The South Theater: Constructed in the 2nd century AD, this theater accommodates up to 5,000 spectators and continues to host concerts and performances today.
Ajlun Castle (Qala'at ar-Rabad)
Ajloun Castle, or Qal'at ar-Rabad, is a 12th-century Muslim fortress on Mount Auf, built by Izz ad-Din Usama bin Munqidh, a general of Saladin, between 1184 and 1188 AD. Its strategic location controlled Ajloun's iron mines and protected the region from Crusader forces while overseeing trade routes and the Jordan Valley.
