A former colonial military fort, San-Lorenzo is located on a promontory at the mouth of the Chagres River on the Caribbean coast of Panama. In 1671, the fleet of the privateer Henry Morgan attacked it on the way to plunder Panama City.
Since the Spanish first landed in the Isthmus of Panama in 1501, Panama has been a natural transit route for goods and people trying to cross from coast to coast. First called Aspinwall, in 1890 it became the city known today - Colon.
