Itinerary

Yulin Comprehensive Market

Your English-speaking guide will meet you at Nijiaqiao Metro Station, from where you’ll take a short 500-meter walk to Yulin Comprehensive Market — one of the most popular and vibrant wet markets in Chengdu. But this isn’t just a place to shop for groceries — it’s a hidden gem for authentic local street food and a true window into everyday Chengdu life. Here, we’ll start our culinary journey by tasting a beloved local snack: freshly made corn pancakes and sweet corn juice. Both are made daily and offer a soft, sweet flavor that locals adore. If you have dietary restrictions and cannot eat corn, don’t worry — we’ll substitute with equally delicious alternatives like egg-filled pancakes (Dan Hong Gao) or crispy sugar-glazed rice balls (Tang You Guo Zi).

Admission Ticket Included

After soaking in the sights, sounds, and flavors of Yulin Market, we’ll continue our walk through the heart of the Yulin neighborhood — a charming and lively community that captures the true essence of local Chengdu life. As we stroll past vegetable stalls, family-run shops, and mahjong-playing locals, you’ll feel the rhythm of everyday life in this nostalgic district. We’ll soon arrive at Fangcao Street, a quiet yet flavorful corner of Chengdu. It’s time to try two more beloved local dishes: Sweet Water Noodles (Tian Shui Mian) and Sichuan Wontons in Chili Oil (Chao Shou). Sweet Water Noodles are thick, chewy handmade noodles served in a rich sauce made with soy, garlic, sugar, and chili oil. Despite the name, it’s a perfect balance of sweetness, spice, and umami. Chao Shou, or Sichuan-style wontons, are silky pork dumplings floating in a bold chili oil sauce that’s spicy, savory, and aromatic — a true comfort food for locals.

Next, we’ll head to a local Sichuan restaurant, where you’ll enjoy a full sit-down meal featuring some of the most iconic and flavorful dishes of Sichuan cuisine. You’ll taste the bold and balanced flavors of: Mapo Tofu – soft tofu in a spicy, numbing chili bean sauce with minced pork Kung Pao Chicken – tender chicken stir-fried with peanuts, dried chilies, and a sweet-vinegary glaze Twice-Cooked Pork (Hui Guo Rou) – Sichuan-style pork belly stir-fried with garlic shoots and broad bean paste This stop lets you truly experience the signature málà (numbing and spicy) flavor profile and the rich aroma that makes Sichuan cuisine world-famous.
