At the agreed upon time, your guides will pick you up from Red Lake (Lacu Rosu in Romanian) and ride about 40 min to the small mountainous village of Haromkut (Trei Fantanele in Romanian), a truly ancestral place in the Eastern Carpathians. Here we pack all the necessary equipment and continue on foot to the Valea Seaca canyon hidden deep in the Hasmas Mountains. Any clothing and belongings that you will not need in the canyon, you may leave in our vehicle. After 1-1.5 h demanding hike in the Bicaz Gorges – Hasmas Mountains National Park, your experienced guides will help you to gear up with helmet, neoprene suit and socks and they will explain and demonstrate proper techniques for descending with a rope, jumping into pools, and how to go down the natural waterslides. These techniques are crucial to your safe descent into the canyon. You will then set out on your adventure! During the tour you will pass more than 15 waterfalls that require technical equipment to rappel and enjoy spectacular views and raw nature as never before. Marvel at free-flowing waterfalls and rugged rock sculptures as you spend between 4-6 hours reaching the bottom. After 1 hour hike back to the cars parked in Haromkut, refuel with a hearty picnic in nature from local produce before your transfer back to Red Lake.
Including the ascent to the entrance point of the canyon, your adventure will require about 6-8 hours (depends on the group size and fitness level) besides the transfer time between Red Lake and Haromkut. The best period to join this tour is July and August when the temperature of the mountain stream is more pleasant (around 8-10 C degree), but the tour is available between June and October thanks to the protection of the neoprene suits.
Please note: This tour is physically demanding and recommended only to people with very good physical condition and ability to swim. Previous experience is not required.
