Kerala, situated at the southern tip of India, is bordered by the Arabian Sea to the west and the Western Ghats, which rise sharply from 500 to 2700 meters, to the east. The state is geographically diverse, encompassing coastal lowlands, fertile midlands, and lush highlands. The lowlands are crisscrossed by a network of tranquil backwaters and the deltas of forty-four rivers. In the midlands, expansive plantations thrive, cultivating cashew, coconut, areca nut, tapioca, banana, rice, ginger, pepper, sugarcane, and various vegetables. The forested highlands are renowned for their scenic tea, coffee, rubber, and spice plantations, which also serve as habitats for diverse wildlife.
