Amalfi and Atrani are located in the heart of the Amalfi coast, a World Heritage Site since 1997. This recognition was conferred on it thanks to its exceptional Mediterranean landscape enriched by scenarios of incomparable beauty, which blend with a thousand-year history. A unique experience to do at least once in a lifetime where history, art, architecture, religion and landscapes are linked in harmony.
Our tour starts from the heart of Amalfi, the cathedral square dedicated to Sant'Andrea. In the center stands the Baroque fountain depicting the patron saint of the coastal city. From it we could quench our thirst with fresh spring water and get ready to climb the approximately 60 steps that will lead us to the cathedral.
Its sumptuous facade decorated with glittering mosaics and arabesque arches is one of the symbols of the Amalfi coast. Arriving at the top of the steps, we will be in the presence of one of the oldest bronze doors in Italy, coming from ancient Constantinople (Istanbul). The Baroque interior of the cathedral houses precious works of art, including paintings depicting the life of Saint Andrew and a precious mother-of-pearl cross, one of a kind, from Jerusalem.
The cloister of Paradise will be the first stop on our itinerary to visit the religious complex of Sant'Andrea and takes its name from its ancient function as an aristocratic cemetery. In an Arab-like atmosphere, surrounded by 120 marble columns and intertwined arches, we will see ancient sarcophagi from the Roman age reused in the times of the "maritime republic" and frescoes from the Giotto school.
