The Self Guided Tour (General Admission) begins at the Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland Visitor Centre
It takes approximately 90 minutes for the full park walk
The Lady Knox Geyser show starts at 10:15am
There is ample parking at the site of the Lady Knox Geyser and most people are parked within a walk of about 100m to the geyser arena
The Visitor Centre also supplies parking areas for visitors which is well sign posted. At peak times, staff will guide you to the parking areas
Special needs parking is located at the front of the Visitor Centre
There are no toilet facilities in the main park. Please ensure you use the toilet facilities available at the Visitor Centre before entering the park
Smoking is strictly not allowed within the attraction. A designated smoking area is sign posted at the front entrance of the Visitor Centre
Thermal pools can be very hot (over 100⁰C or 210⁰F) and have toxic gases or fumes at the surface. Also, thermal pools can form a thin crust over the top of them that looks like a solid surface, but will break if a person stood on it. Thermal pools can be hidden under vegetation
For your own safety, please ensure you and your children stick to the walkways, stay behind the barriers, and obey the safety signs. It is recommended holding hands with young children when walking through the park

By car: From Rotorua, travel south along the Thermal Explorer Highway (SH 5) towards Taupo for 27km (20mins drive) until you reach the Waiotapu Tavern. Turn left opposite the tavern and travel 2km to reach Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland
By car from Taupo, travel north along the Thermal Explorer Highway (SH 5) towards Rotorua for 53km (40 minutes drive). Turn right where signposted and travel a further 1km to Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland
