Hike 3km through dense rainforest up to Samoa’s Iconic Volcanic Crater Lake. Lookout for wild goldfish while cooling off in the lake’s refreshing waters.
A magnificent volcanic crater lake, Lake Lanoto’o - one of only two locations in Samoa to be designated as a ‘Wetland of International Importance’ under the RAMSAR convention. This 6km hike may be wet and slippery but that’s the fun of getting “off-the-beaten-track”.
First km is along the 4WD track. 2.25km from the start of the Lake Lanoto’o National Park to this unique and utterly pristine lake. Pass through lush and varied forest. A well-deserved swim in the lake will leave you not only refreshed but with a serene sense of awe. Enjoy refreshments and then return.
Very few experienced guides are available for this adventure; Tim, an experienced hiker and mountaineer, started this tour in 2018 on a commercial basis.

Maybe digress on the return trip to take in a refreshing dip in the creek pool at the foot of Mt Vaea adjacent to the Museum grounds. Ever so tiny fish may nibble at your toes.
