Itinerary

Fukuokazeki Sakura Park is a beautiful park located in Tsukubamirai City. Covering about 2.7 hectares, the park features a spacious lawn area, large playground equipment, and a water play area, making it a popular spot for families. In spring, the park is famous for its stunning cherry blossoms, with around 450 cherry trees lining a 1.8 km stretch along an irrigation canal, and a total of about 600 trees in the surrounding area. During this season, the Fukuokazeki Sakura Festival is held, featuring local specialties and various events. It's a fantastic place to enjoy hanami (cherry blossom viewing) and relax in nature!

Mount Tsukuba

Mount Tsukuba (筑波山) is a famous mountain, standing at 877 meters. It is known for its twin peaks, Nyotai-san (877m) and Nantai-san (871m), which are often associated with male and female deities in Japanese mythology. Unlike Mount Fuji, which has a symmetrical shape, Mount Tsukuba is covered in lush greenery and changes color with the seasons, making it a beautiful sight year-round. The mountain is a popular hiking destination, with several trails leading to the summit, as well as a cable car and ropeway for easier access. At the top, visitors can enjoy breathtaking panoramic views, and on clear days, even see Tokyo and Mount Fuji. The area is also home to Tsukuba Shrine, a historic site that has been a place of worship for centuries.

The park preserves several features of the original castle, including the East and West Towers, main gates, and water moats. One of the park's notable structures is the yaguramon (turret gate), which is the only remaining one in the Kanto region, highlighting its historical significance. In spring, Kijo Park becomes a popular destination for cherry blossom viewing, with approximately 50 Somei Yoshino cherry trees blooming from late March to early April. The park hosts the Tsuchiura Cherry Blossom Festival during this period, featuring illuminated cherry blossoms and various events that attract numerous visitors.
