St. Mary Gate

A historic entrance to the city located in its old town. Built in the 16th century, this gate is an outstanding example of military architecture from the Renaissance era. It is known for its imposing stone structure, its semicircular arch and its ornamental details. It was originally the residence of the bishops of Bayonne, France, during the 17th and 18th centuries, when Hondarribia was part of the territory of the bishopric of Bayonne.
