At the center of the Piazza del Campidoglio stands a bronze equestrian statue of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, a striking symbol of ancient Rome. Surrounding the square are three elegant buildings: Palazzo Senatorio, the city hall; Palazzo dei Conservatori, a museum; and Palazzo Nuovo, another museum. These structures house an extensive collection of Roman art and historical artifacts. The geometric patterned pavement, known as the "cordonata," leads visitors up to the square, providing a dramatic approach to the Campidoglio.
