Temple of Poseidon
The Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion is one of Greece’s most iconic ancient sites, perched on a cliff overlooking the Aegean Sea. Built in the 5th century BCE during the Golden Age of Athens, the temple was dedicated to Poseidon, god of the sea, as a symbol of Athens’ naval strength. Its location was strategic, marking the point where sailors would bid farewell to the land or catch their first glimpse of home. The temple’s stunning Doric columns and breathtaking sunsets make it a popular destination, blending natural beauty with historical significance.
Kape Beach
Kape Beach, located near Cape Sounion, is a hidden gem on the Athenian Riviera, known for its crystal-clear turquoise waters and secluded atmosphere. Surrounded by rocky cliffs and lush vegetation, this beach offers a peaceful escape from the bustling city, making it ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing. Although it’s a bit tricky to access due to its steep path, the effort is rewarded with stunning, unspoiled natural beauty.
