We will take the road to Teror from Las Palmas. Arrival scheduled for 9:45 a.m. The town of Teror was founded in 1481. The great attraction of this town is not only the great devotion dedicated to the Virgen del Pino, patron saint of the island, and a very important place of pilgrimage in Spain, but also that it is one of the municipalities with great historical and natural value. It is in Teror that you can appreciate the wooden balconies, typical of Canarian architecture which adorn a large part of the town. We will walk around Teror and visit its Church.
At 11:00 we will depart from Teror and take the road to Firgas. Arrival around 11:30 a.m. Water plays the main role in the story of Firgas. We will visit the Church of San Roque (if it is open) then we will admire the landscape from the viewpoint of the Church. Finally, we will take the Paseo de Gran Canaria. It is a pedestrian street whose natural inclination was used to build a pretty 30 meter long freestone waterfall and a beautiful monument. You can admire the 22 heraldic coats of arms representing all the municipalities of Gran Canaria and the island coat of arms. Then, we will visit the Paseo de Canaria, where you can see representations of the different islands that make up the Canary Islands archipelago. Finally, it will be time to have our lunch in a unique restaurant where the majority of dishes are based on Watercress (which only grows in the Firgas region). Not included in the price of the excursion.
Around 1:30 p.m. we will leave for Arucas (arrival around 2:00 p.m.). We will visit the exterior of the parish church of “San Juan Bautista”, (1909), an architectural masterpiece sculpted entirely in Arucas stone. This enormous four-towered church was built from black basalt. It is the neo-Gothic style emblem of the city. Then, we will stroll through the historic district of Arucas passing by Constitution Square and its traditional houses dating from the 17th century. Finally, we will take a walk in the municipal garden of Arucas which benefits from a generous microclimate which has allowed these and other exotic trees including jacarandas and rubber trees to flourish. Many varieties of palm trees have been planted, forming an unmissable paradise landscape for anyone who wants to capture the essence of Gran Canaria. 3:00 p.m.: It’s time to hit the road again towards “Las Palmas de Gran Canaria” which we will reach around 3:45 p.m.
