People's Square (Renmin Guang Chang)
Shanghai People's Square is located at the very center of Shanghai and is the demarcation point of East Nanjing Road and West Nanjing Road. It is a flourishing place for people to look around. There are many scenic spots around people's square, such as the new Municipal Government Mansion, Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Grand Theater and the Urban Planning Exhibition Hall.
Shanghai Museum (Shanghai Bowuguan)
Though Shanghai is known to most visitors as a modern metropolis, it possesses a profound history and culture. Shanghai Museum is for you to take in this point. Bronze wares, ceramics, coins, jade articles, sculptures, seals, and calligraphy and paintings from different dynasties are gathered here.
Jade Buddha Temple
It is a venerable and famous Buddhist temple. In 1882, an old temple was built to keep two jade Buddha statues which had been brought from Burma by a monk named Huigen. The temple was destroyed during the revolution that overthrew the Qing Dynasty. Fortunately the statues were saved and a new temple was built on the present site in 1928. It was named the Jade Buddha Temple. Although the history of the Jade Buddha Temple is not very long, the old-time and classical architectural style makes it unique and inimitable in this modern city. It is a good place to go, the peaceful and transcendent atmosphere adds a kind of richness to our busy modern society.
