After entering Chernobyl Exclusion Zone you will explore abandoned military town Chernobyl-2 and "Russian Woodpecker" - OTH Radar of type "DUGA-1". The system operated from July 1976 to December 1989. Two operational Duga radars were deployed, one near Chernobyl and Chernihiv in the Ukrainian SSR (present-day Ukraine), the other in eastern Siberia. You will see all most interesting locations: - Soldier's club - with a well-preserved gym inside; - High school for military officers; - Fire station with well-preserved model of military town Chernobyl-2 and "Russian Woodpecker"; - Main communication centre building with mock trajectory of ballistic missiles around the earth; - Radar station technical tunnel - legendary place from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. computer game.
After "Duga" radar station you will explore unfinished cooling tower next CNPP phase 3. The ‘Power Plant Сooling Towers’ are two unfinished concrete giants close to building site of Reactor 5 and 6 of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. At the present time the towers are two industrial ruins. After cooling towers you will visit unique abandoned laboratory of Radiobiology and Radioecology near Chernobyl power plant. Samples of eggs and small fish in an abandoned scientific laboratory, which is located a few kilometers from the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. The laboratory was abandoned by one of the enterprises of the Chernobyl zone.
After you will visit the Pripyat monument - and CNPP observe point and have authentic Chernobyl lunch at CNPP canteen. The New Safe Confinement (NSC or New Shelter, rarely Arka) is a structure built to confine the remains of the number 4 reactor unit at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, in Ukraine, which was destroyed during the Chernobyl disaster in 1986. The structure also encloses the temporary Shelter Structure (sarcophagus) that was built around the reactor immediately after the disaster. The New Safe Confinement is designed to prevent the release of radioactive contaminants, protect the reactor from external influence, facilitate the disassembly and decommissioning of the reactor, and prevent water intrusion.
