After a 2-hour drive, we will arrive at Sainte-Mère-Église, a small village in the heart of the Cotentin, an emblematic place of D-Day and an essential passage to understand the history of the Landings. On June 6, 1944, this village was one of the first to be liberated by the Allied forces. This historic moment is immortalized by the story of John Steele, an American paratrooper whose parachute caught on the church steeple, saving his life. By visiting Sainte-Mère-Église, you will be able to explore the church itself, where a replica of the parachute is still visible, and visit the Airborne Museum, dedicated to American paratroopers. You will discover poignant exhibitions, period equipment, and relive the critical hours of the Landings through stories and testimonies. A visit to this village steeped in history will immerse you in the emotion of D-Day, paying tribute to the heroism and sacrifice of the soldiers who marked the history of freedom.
Nearby, stop at La Fière Bridge & Iron Mike Monument, the site of intense fighting between U.S. paratroopers and German troops. The statue of Iron Mike honors the heroic efforts of the 82nd Airborne Division in securing the bridge—an essential objective in the broader Normandy campaign.
Continue to Utah Beach, one of the two American landing sectors. Its tranquil shoreline today contrasts with the fierce combat that took place on June 6, 1944. The beach area offers space for quiet reflection
