On this tour, I will show you stunning architecture, narrate little-known stories of the colorful, brave, and notorious characters that made Melbourne the richest city in the world in the 1880s, and show you old photos and drawings to illustrate what Melbourne was like in the 1800s.
Finally, I will shoot professional photographs of you in front of Melbourne's most iconic buildings and views.
Within 48 hours of the end of the tour, you will receive high-resolution edited images to download.
Additionally, young people below 15 years old can come along for FREE when accompanied by adults.
We will meet outside the Immigration Museum to start our walking tour. We will set the scene for Melbourne's history, including where the first European settlers landed (we will not be going inside the Museum). Our stories include those of the 2 Elizas and other memorable and strong women who lived and flourished in those times. As we walk from the Immigration Museum to Collins St, we will stop to admire some little-known sites including that of Melbourne's first hotel built in 1835.
On the fabulous Collins Street, I will explain highlights of the Gothic, Classical, and Art Deco architecture and narrate the personal stories of the colorful characters that shaped Melbourne and made it the richest city in the world by 1900. We will stop at 6 historically rich sites, each with their fascinating stories on Collins St.
"Doing the Block" used to be a favorite pastime between 1870 and the First World War in 1914. You will see three gorgeous historical arcades nearby, including stories of the oldest tearoom, and admire the 2 legendary giants still guarding one of the arcades.
You will make your own way to the meeting points
