This pseudo-Western-style school building was completed in April 1876 as the new building for Kaichi School, which opened in May 1873. It was used as a school building until 1963, when it was moved to its current location and restored as a museum. The school building, which has been praised for its unique originality that conveys the state of modernization and as a building that symbolizes a school at the dawn of the modern era, was designated a National Treasure in 2019, the first modern school building to be designated a National Treasure. Inside the museum, you can learn about the appeal of the National Treasure school building and see historical educational materials from Kaichi School.
