In 1778, the Amsterdam entrepreneur Adriaan de Boois buys an old defense tower. He has received permission from the city of Haarlem to build a windmill. Adriaan builds his mill on top of the old Goê Vrouwtoren. As a result, the blades protrude high above the Spaarne and catch every breath of wind.
