Itinerary

Lisbon

Begin your journey in the 5-century-old Bairro Alto neighborhood, where you'll learn about the city's history. Following the 1755 earthquake, this area drew families from the Baixa and Bairro districts, who began the process of renewal. Pass via the garden of So Pedro de Alcantara and take in the views of Baixa and the Tagus River's south bank. The Jesuits erected the San Roque Church, which you can see today. Admire the gilding, tiles, and paintings that make it a fascinating museum of Mannerist and Baroque styles on the interior, as well as the austere facade. Head down the hill to the Carmo convent and church, which are excellent specimens of Gothic architecture in the city. This is a historically significant location since it was here that the Carnation Revolution began in 1974, ending nearly five decades of authoritarianism. And the journey concludes in Lisbon Cathedral, which was erected in 1150, three years after the city was recaptured from the Moors.
