Lagoa do Fogo: Private Scenic Walking Tour
This trail begins on a dirt road that leads you through a forest rich in Eucalyptus, Australian Cheesewood, Acacias, and Yellow Ginger Lilies. Along the way, you'll also encounter several species of Typha, a plant native to New Zealand.
As you continue, you'll explore the Lagoa do Fogo water trails (levadas), where you'll discover endemic Azorean plants such as Uva da Serra (Vaccinium cylindraceum), Urze (Erica azorica), Folhado (Viburnum tinus), and Linguee. Along the ascent, there are several viewpoints offering stunning vistas of the south coast of São Miguel Island and the islet of Vila Franca do Campo. Finally, the trail leads you to the breathtaking Lagoa do Fogo, the island’s largest lake, nestled in the heart of a volcanic crater.

Departing from Ponta Delgada, you'll first explore some breathtaking coastal views. The trail begins on a dirt road that leads you through a forest of Eucalyptus, Australian Cheesewood, Acacias, and Yellow Ginger Lilies. Along the way, you’ll discover the scenic Lagoa do Fogo water trails, before reaching the island's largest lake, Lagoa do Fogo. On the return journey, enjoy stunning views of São Miguel's south coast, as well as the islet of Vila Franca do Campo, famous for hosting the Red Bull Cliff Diving Championship. Your tour concludes with a option bathing at Praia Grande de Água D'Alto beach."
