Mt. Mitake is a popular hiking destination near Tokyo, blending natural beauty with cultural heritage—yet it still holds many hidden charms.

The Rock Garden trail, which winds through a gorge on the way to Mt. Mitake, is one of our favorite routes from early summer to autumn. It features beautiful deciduous forests and gentle waterfalls.

At the summit stands Mitake Shrine, a historic Shinto shrine perched 929 meters above sea level in Tokyo’s Okutama region. It enshrines a revered wolf deity and has been a center of mountain worship and spiritual pilgrimage in the Greater Tokyo area for centuries.

The nearby shrine town offers traditional shukubō (pilgrimage lodgings), where you can enjoy authentic Japanese cuisine. Reservations are required, so please let us know in advance if you wish.

We recommend wearing sporty or comfortable outdoor clothing. If you have any dietary restrictions or other concerns, kindly inform us beforehand—we'll do our best to accommodate your needs.
