Meet your guide at the lobby of your hotel and have an orientation of the sightseeing and embark on a day-long tour, featuring the highlights of Jaipur city. We begin by taking a joyful jeep ride up to the magnificent Amber Fort. Named after the fertility and earth Goddess of the Minas, Amba Mata, Amber Fort, commissioned by Raja Man Singh I, in the 16th century, served as the capital of the Kachwaha Rajputs, before Jaipur was built. Made entirely of red sandstone and white marble, the Amber fort served as a haven against attacking enemies. Astounding painting, hunting murals, exquisite glass, mirror and artwork grace the walls of the fort. After being enthralled by this UNESCO World Heritage Site, we take a jeep ride back to the base and continue onward to visit the glorious City Palace.
The remarkable City palace was built by Sawai Jai Singh II, the founder of Jaipur, along with royal court architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya and Sir Samuel Swinton Jacob, which is why one can see the Rajput, Mughal and European influences in its architecture. The Mubarak Mahal within the palace still houses the voluminous clothes donned by the mighty King, Sawai Madho Singh I, who is said to have weighed 250 kilograms, while the Maharani's palace has an interesting display of 15th century Rajput weaponry.
Our tour continues as we proceed to visit another UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Jantar Mantar. Jantar Mantar meaning 'calculation instrument', is one of the five observatories built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, who also built the Delhi Jantar Mantar. The Jaipur Jantar Mantar is regarded as the best preserved and the largest of them all. The device containing sixteen geometric designs was used to measure time, observe the orbits and track celestial bodies.
