The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, commonly known as the Egyptian Museum or the Museum of Cairo, is located in Cairo, Egypt, and houses one of the world’s most extensive collections of ancient Egyptian artifacts. Featuring over 120,000 items, a significant portion is on display while the rest are preserved in storerooms. Built in 1901 by the Italian construction firm Garozzo-Zaffarani, the museum is one of the largest in the region. As of March 2019, it remains open to the public, although it is set to be succeeded by the new Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, scheduled to open in 2020.
Papyrus, an early form of a book, was first used in Egypt, dating back to at least the First Dynasty. It was made from the papyrus plant, which once grew in abundance along the Nile River.
The Egyptian pyramids are ancient stone structures found throughout Egypt, with at least 118 identified to date. Most of these pyramids were constructed as tombs for pharaohs and their consorts during the Old and Middle Kingdom periods.
