Itinerary

Park and National Palace of Pena

Perched atop the Sintra Mountains, Pena Palace is one of Portugal’s most iconic and romantic landmarks. This colorful 19th-century palace is a masterpiece of Romanticism, combining Gothic, Manueline, Moorish, and Renaissance architectural styles in a truly unique and whimsical design. Commissioned by King Ferdinand II, the palace was built on the ruins of a former monastery and completed in 1854. It served as a royal summer residence and reflects the king’s artistic vision and passion for nature and architecture. Surrounded by the lush Pena Park, a vast forested area with exotic trees, hidden paths, and stunning viewpoints, the palace offers breathtaking panoramas of the surrounding region — and even the Atlantic Ocean on clear days. Can be one of the Palaces included on the Tour, depending on availability

Sintra National Palace

Located in the heart of Sintra’s historic center, the National Palace of Sintra (also known as Palácio da Vila) is one of Portugal’s oldest and best-preserved royal residences. Easily recognized by its two towering conical chimneys, the palace has been a central part of Portuguese history for centuries. Originally a Moorish palace, it was transformed and expanded by successive Portuguese monarchs from the 14th to the 19th century. The result is a unique blend of Gothic, Manueline, and Moorish architectural styles. Inside, visitors can explore beautifully decorated rooms such as the Swan Room, the Magpie Room, and the Blazons Hall, each with intricate tilework, painted ceilings, and rich symbolism. The palace also offers insight into the daily life and politics of the Portuguese royal court. Can be one of the palaces included, depending on availability
