This is the ideal tour for your first day in Florence, an opportunity to see some of its highlights. You will be taken around the centre of the city to see the Santa Croce Church, the Bargello Palace, Piazza della Repubblica and Piazza della Signoria with its wonderful sculptures located in the open-air loggia (all from the outside). Your guide will also take you to see the outside of Palazzo Vecchio, once home to the famous Medici family and also the Uffizi Gallery, formerly government offices. A great 2 hour tour to get to know Florence!
In the company of a local guide you will learn something of the city’s history, especially during the Renaissance period. You will see first the outside of the Church of Santa Croce, the principal Franciscan church of Florence with its wonderful frescoes.
Then it is on to Piazza dei Peruzzi and the Bargello Palace. A short walk will bring you to the Porcellino market and here your guide will tell you all about the Ponte Vecchio, Florence’s oldest bridge dating back to the 14th century.
As you meander through Florence’s streets and piazzas you come to the political centre of the city, Piazza della Signoria. On one side is the Uffizi Gallery once the home of the Great Duke’s of Florence and on the opposite side of the piazza the imposing Palazzo Vecchio, former seat of the Florentine government.
