Padrao dos Descobrimentos
The Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument to the Discoveries) is an imposing monument located in Belém, next to the Tagus River, built to pay homage to the Portuguese navigators of the Age of Discovery. Inaugurated in 1960, on the 500th anniversary of the death of Prince Henry the Navigator, it takes the form of a caravel stylized with historical figures such as Vasco da Gama, Fernão de Magalhães and other explorers.
