Zürich is Switzerland's "kleintropolis". That is what Max Frisch, a native author and architect, called this place: a small metropolis.

Even though the city has grown substantially since Max's time, on this tour you'll discover just how well the description still fits! Switzerland's largest city, an economic center and a cosmopolitan historically rich city beckoning to be explored on foot!

Our walk begins on the Bahnhofstrasse, at the edge of the old town. You will walk along cobblestone streets beside the Limmat River and see where the Romans and Carolingians settled. Experience the architecture from medieval to modern after that, and there are a lot of fountains. Zürich started creating fountains in the Middle Ages to provide residents with water and never seemed to stop. We will explore the same paths Albert Einstein and James Joyce walked when they called this city home. If you like we can also take the short ride on the Polybahn for an exceptional view of Zürich.

Welcome to Zurich Hauptbahnhof, the beating heart of Switzerland's largest city and one of Europe's busiest railway stations. As you step outside, you'll find yourself in the midst of Zurich's vibrant urban life, seamlessly blending historical charm with modern elegance. From here, we'll embark on a walking tour that will take us through the city's picturesque streets, along the serene banks of the Limmat River, and into the cultural and commercial hubs that make Zurich a captivating destination. Get ready to explore a city where every corner tells a story, from medieval heritage to contemporary art.

Landesmuseum

Our next stop is the Swiss National Museum, or Landesmuseum, a magnificent castle-like building located just a stone's throw from Zurich Hauptbahnhof. This museum is a treasure trove of Swiss cultural history, showcasing an extensive collection that spans prehistoric artifacts to modern-day exhibits. As we explore its halls, you'll encounter fascinating displays of medieval armor, traditional Swiss crafts, and innovative art installations. The museum's impressive architecture and beautiful gardens provide a perfect backdrop for delving into the rich and diverse heritage of Switzerland.

Alfred Escher Statue

Our next highlight is the Alfred Escher Fountain, a striking landmark located near Bahnhofplatz. This fountain commemorates Alfred Escher, a pivotal figure in Swiss history, known for his contributions to the country's railway system and the founding of Credit Suisse. As you admire the intricate details of the fountain, you'll learn about Escher's profound impact on Zurich's development and Switzerland's economic growth. Surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the city, this monument stands as a testament to Escher's enduring legacy and vision.
