The valley of Wadi El-Rayan spans an area of 1759 km2, with 113 km2 occupied by the striking water body of the Wadi El Rayan lakes. Situated approximately 65 km southwest of Faiyum city and 80 km west of the Nile River, this valley has been transformed by man-made lakes created from agricultural drainage. The resulting reserve consists of two distinct lakes: an upper lake covering 50.90 km2 and a lower lake spanning 62.00 km2, connected by waterfalls. Three sulphur springs adorn the southern side of the lower lake, surrounded by vast mobile sand dunes. Wadi El Rayan Waterfalls are celebrated as the largest in Egypt.
