Atomic Bomb Dome

The Atomic Bomb Dome in Hiroshima is a haunting yet powerful symbol of peace and resilience. Once the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, it was among the few buildings left standing after the atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945. Its skeletal frame, with charred walls and an exposed dome, remains preserved as it was after the blast. Set in Peace Memorial Park, it contrasts starkly with the rebuilt city around it. The site includes monuments and museums honoring victims and advocating for a nuclear-free world. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it inspires reflection on war and hope for peace.

Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park

Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima is a solemn and powerful tribute to the victims of the atomic bomb and a worldwide symbol of peace. Built at the epicenter of the August 6, 1945 explosion, the park commemorates over 140,000 lives lost and promotes the abolition of nuclear weapons. Key landmarks include the Atomic Bomb Dome, preserved as it was after the blast; the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, detailing the horrors and aftermath of the bombing; and the Cenotaph for the A-Bomb Victims, which holds the names of those who perished. The Flame of Peace, which will burn until all nuclear weapons are eliminated, and the Children’s Peace Monument, inspired by young victim Sadako Sasaki, are also central features. Surrounded by greenery, memorials, and quiet walkways, the park offers a space for reflection, education, and remembrance. It stands as a beacon of hope and a call for lasting global peace.

Ground Zero

Ground Zero in Hiroshima marks the epicenter of the 1945 atomic blast. Located near the Atomic Bomb Dome, it’s a powerful reminder of the destruction and a call for peace and nuclear disarmament.
