Amarapura

Amarapura is a former capital of Myanmar, and now a township of Mandalay city. Amarapura is bounded by the Irrawaddy river in the west, Chanmyathazi Township in the north, and the ancient capital site of Ava (Inwa) in the south. It was the capital of Myanmar twice during the Konbaung period (1783–1821 and 1842–1859) before finally being supplanted by Mandalay 11 km north in 1859. It is historically referred to as Taungmyo (Southern City) in relation to Mandalay. Amarapura today is part of Mandalay, as a result of urban sprawl. The township is known today for its traditional silk and cotton weaving, and bronze casting. It is a popular tourist day-trip destination from Mandalay. Amarapura Sightseeing 1."Mahargandaryone Monastery" A pleasantly meditative place for most of the day . One of the largest teaching monasteries in Myanmar. Founded around 1914. 2."U Bein Bridge" The world's largest teak footbridge gently curves 1300 yd across shallow TaungThaman Lake. A great time to visit is sunset. 3."Weaving" Weaving industry is one of the main professions of the Amarapura people. Over one hundred looms are used to obtain beautiful and intricate design an patterns as silk.

Mingun

Mingun is a town in Sagaing Township of Sagaing Region, north-west Myanmar (Burma), located 11 km up the Ayeyarwady River on the west bank from Mandalay. Its main attraction is the ruined Mingun Pahtodawgyi. Mingun City Sightseeing 1."Pathodawgyi Pagoda" A roughly 240ft cube on a 460ft lower terrance. Described as the world's largest pile of bricks. 2."MyaTheinTan Pagoda" MyaTheinTan Pagoda is a large pagoda on the northern side of Mingun in Sagain Region. The pagoda is painted white and is modeled on the physical description of the Buddhist mythological mountain, Mount Meru. 3."Giant Lion" Giant Lion The Mingun temple is a monumental uncompleted stupa began by King Bodawpaya in 1790. 4.Mingun Bell A bronze bell weighting 55,555 viss (90 tons). Sagaing

Sagaing is the capital of Myanmar's Sagaing Region and located the Irrawaddy River, 20 km to the south-west of Mandalay on the opposite bank of the river, Sagaing, with numerous Buddhist monasteries is an important religious and monastic centre. The pagodas and monasteries crowd the numerous hills along the ridge running parallel to the river. The central pagoda, Soon U Ponya Shin Pagoda, is connected by a set of covered staircases that run up the 240 m hill. Sagging City Sightseeing 1."Soon U Ponya Shin Pagoda" The central 97ft-high gilded stupa was originally conceived in 1312. The most important of the temples on Sagaing Hill's southern crown. 2."U Min Thonze Caves" U Min Thounze (literally 30 Caves) is famed for its crescent-shaped colonnadeof 45 buddha images.
