Chichén Itzá is a representative archaeological site of the ancient Mayan civilization, which is also registered as a World Heritage Site. It is said to have played a central role for more than 200 years in the history of the Mayan civilization that flourished between the 8th and 12th centuries. The Castle (Pyramid of Kukulcán), is impressive! We walked for about two hours among the ruins, but since we walked slowly, it is safe even for small children.
Meaning: “Chichen Itza”, on the edge of the well where the Water Sages live. This is what Chichén Itzá means in Mayan.
The Pyramid of Chichén Itzá or El Castillo is the most amazing Mayan ruin or building within the Archaeological Site.
Chichén Itzá is a well-known archaeological site and even more so after having been selected as one of the New 7 Wonders of the World on July 7, 2007. It receives more than 2,500,000 visitors each year. Chichén Itzá is divided into Old Chichén and Chichén Itzá.
