Our destination is Cape Sounion, following a wonderful route for 90 minutes on the coastal road of the Southwestern suburbs of Athens, the so-called Athenian Riviera along the Saronic Gulf. We will visit the ancient Doric temple of Poseidon, perched on the steep cliffs at the highest point of Cape Sounion, dominating the entire area, where legend has it king Aegeus committed suicide when he thought his son and heir Theseus was killed by the Minotaur! The Temple of Poseidon is one of the most important archaeological monuments in the wider area of Athens.
