Embark on a captivating journey to the revered Wat Doi Suthep, one of Thailand’s most sacred temples, situated on the picturesque Doi Suthep mountain. This stunning temple, founded in the 14th century, offers not only a spiritual experience but also breathtaking panoramic views of Chiang Mai and the surrounding countryside.

Ascend the 306-step staircase flanked by mythical Naga serpents to reach the temple complex, where you’ll be greeted by the glimmering golden chedi (stupa) that dominates the landscape. Take your time to admire the intricate architecture, vibrant murals, and serene Buddha statues as you explore the grounds.

After your visit to Wat Doi Suthep, continue your adventure by heading to a nearby Hmong village, where you’ll gain insight into the rich culture and traditions of this vibrant hilltribe. Engage with the friendly locals, who are known for their colorful traditional clothing and exquisite handicrafts, including textiles and silver jewelry.

Itinerary

Hilltribe Villages

There are a number of different hill tribes living in Northern Thailand – Thins, Lawa, and Karen for example, but the Meo tribe happens to live close to the Doi Suthep temple. There are two parts to the village – a largish village centre surrounded by the obligatory commercial areas displaying some of their craftsmanship endeavours (especially needlework and sewing and some weaponry) for sale. Beyond that are a large gardened area and waterfall

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep

Doi Suthep is a constant part of life in Chiang Mai. A Thai saying goes, "If you haven't tasted Khao Soi or seen the view from Doi Suthep, you haven't been to Chiang Mai." This regal mountain overlooks the city from the northwest, providing commanding views from its summit. Aside from its dominating presence on the horizon, Doi Suthep is the home of some of the most deeply loved symbols in the Kingdom.
