Kaminarimon means ‘Thunder Gate.’ It is the grand entrance to Senso-ji Temple, built over 1,000 years ago. The huge red lantern in the center weighs about 700 kilograms and is one of Tokyo’s most famous photo spots.
Nakamise Street is a 250-meter shopping street leading to Senso-ji Temple. It has about 90 shops selling souvenirs and traditional Japanese snacks. It’s one of the oldest shopping streets in Tokyo, dating back over 300 years.
Senso-ji is Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple, founded in the year 628. It is dedicated to Kannon, the Goddess of Mercy, and attracts over 30 million visitors every year. The temple is famous for its giant red lanterns and beautiful five-story pagoda.
