The mountain village of Mae Kampong has gained national recognition for its communal approach for living in harmony with nature: cooler climates and with a visit to local hot springs included, we present a day tour of authentic proportions in Thailand.

Your day commences by meeting your guide and driver at your hotel in Chiang Mai. The village lies an approximately one hour outside of the Rose of the North in a mountainous region of Northern Thailand. Upon arrival at Mae Kampong, you will immediately feel the temperature differences between Chiang Mai and our main goal for the day, dominated by its green surroundings and a small mountain stream. The residents of Mae Kampong are very hospitable, and there is not a better way to see how they’re moving on in their daily lives than at the market. It is here where not only goods are exchanged in return for Baht, but the local market forms a prime meeting spot for the smaller surrounding communities to share the latest news. Following in the footsteps of your guide, the communal forest is one of their treasure troves; while walking, you gain an insight into how the villagers keep their traditional ways of living in harmony with nature. Back in the village, you will wander along the tea fermentation processing areas of Mae Kampong, see how exquisite handicraft and products are made for sales and visit the local temple and nearby school (visits may not be possible, depending on the permission from the teachers and/or when the school is closed). The 7-tiered waterfall completes this morning tour before enjoying lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon, we head over to the San Kamphaeng Hot Springs, situated around 35 kilometres outside Chiang Mai. The healing powers of these hot springs, both for physical and mental relaxation, are widely known in Thailand. The high amount of sulphur in the groundwaters, aligned with the peacefulness of its surroundings, make this an excellent stop to ease your mind.
When time permits, we finally visit one of the most popular forms of handicraft at the Umbrella Making Centre before reaching your hotel at around 4:30 pm.
