Few landmarks in Japan are better suited to narrate Japan’s inception than this 1900-year-old shrine. A nation’s origin is shrouded in myths most of the time. So is Japan’s inception. While the main focus at this landmark is the origin of the nation, the guide will discuss overall flow of the history as we look at monuments here related to major historical figures.
During the chaos of warring states in the 16th century, three feudal lords emerged victorious one after another. Interestingly, all three of them were from Nagoya or its vicinity. The last one became the founder of the Tokugawa Shogunate which ruled Japan for almost three centuries until late 19th century. Nagoya Castle symbolizes the consummation of power gripping by the Tokugawa clan. The guide will relate the history focusing on the period of warring states and transition to unification in early 17th century.
After the collapse of the last Shogunate, the new government’s top priority was modernization and industrialization. The private sector also played a significant role. Toyota’s rise from scratch offers a clue to understanding the secret of Japan’s success in rapid industrialization. The guide will demystify how Toyota could establish its own footing at the very early stage.
