When King U Thong built Ayutthaya as his island capital some 650 years ago, the city was to last for 417 years. Over its long history from 1350 to 1767 there were five Thai dynasties and a total of 33 kings. When people from other countries came to the kingdom they remarked on its’ size and wealth and the beauty of the place. See ruins which have survived from this once magnificent city
