King Yasovarman I (AD 889 – 900) built the central tower of Prasat Vihear and built Yasodharapura city on the natural mountain top. King Sursovarman I (AD 1002 – 1050) built the next central towers and rampart plus three Gopuras (monumental entrance towers). According to the inscription on the temple. the King prepared a celebration and invited the god Patresvara who stayed in Wat Pu (Pu Gogoda) in Laos with another god Sreisikharesvara. The king asked god Patresvara to protect and take care of the Khmer Empire. Pu Pagoda belonged to the Khmer before and during the Khmer empire as an ancient Khmer capital. King Jayavarman VI (AD 1080-1109) built two libraries, restored and repaired some parts of the temple.
