Alfama

Alfama, the oldest district of Lisbon, is an old Medina with small rows and alleys, a perfect defense system during the period of Arabah in Portugal from the eighth to the twelfth century, after the Christian reconquest, the Arab civilization that lived here, if moved to the "Mouraria" neighborhood. Discover that Alfama is steeped in Portuguese authenticity, Fado, the most typical and charismatic Portuguese music, was born in this neighborhood in the midst of this melancholy that the Portuguese called "longing".

Lisbon Cathedral

The church of St. Anthony was built in the exact place where St. Anthony was born, near the Lisbon Cathedral, the building was the responsibility of D. Afonso Henriques (first King of Portugal) in the twelfth century, when the city was conquered by the Moors. On the site was an old mosque. The earthquakes felt in Lisbon have reshaped the city over the years to present it as it is today.

Continuing our tour of Lisbon, we will visit the center of Lisbon, the "Baixa", and understand the importance of the terrible 1755 earthquake and its reflection on Portuguese minds and even Portuguese architecture. The buildings were built in a completely different way, with wider streets and many squares, already foreseeing that something like this could happen again, even with an 18th century anti-seismic construction, Marquês de Pombal, the statesman responsible for rebuilding Lisbon, as well as all the economic and social changes that arose after the earthquake.
