This exciting hiking trail begins at “Paso de Cortés” within the Iztaccíhuatl-Popocatépetl National Park, at an elevation of 3,500 meters above sea level. In the extraordinary forest where you will observe pines, oaks and oyameles, as well as beautiful mountain roses and the endemic Teporingo rabbit. As you ascend, you can see the imposing Pico de Orizaba (the highest mountain in Mexico), the enigmatic Malinche and the Sierra Negra. Later the landscape is transformed, moving from leafy forests to areas of alpine scrub and finally rocky and volcanic terrain. Duration: 7 hours (walk) Distance: 15 kilometers (with option to extend to 18 km) Views of Popocatépetl: During the ascent, the active volcano Popocatépetl is observed, with its fumaroles and its imposing presence. Technical stops: Several stops are made to rest, hydrate and enjoy the INCLUDED foods (snacks, fruits and energy drinks). End of Altitude: 4000 msnm (optional up to 4200). Requirements: Sports clothing and shoes. Extension option at 4200 msnm for the more adventurous. This unforgettable experience will challenge your senses.
