Experience the Rio Grande’s wild and scenic waters on a half-day rafting trip, the most popular option. Navigate this 6 mile section with class II-III rapids while taking in the striking landscapes of northern New Mexico. Morning trips depart 9:00 AM from Santa Fe Boatyard, returning by 3:00/ 3:30 PM. Afternoon trips depart at 12:00 PM, returning around 5:30/ 6:00 PM. Please see our website for a more detailed look at a tentative daily schedule for both morning and afternoon trips. Why Choose the Rio Grande Half-Day Racecourse: Exciting Rapids: Navigate six class II-III rapids with professional guidance. Geology & Ecology: Learn about the Rio Grande’s rock formations and local wildlife. Wildlife Sightings: If luck is on our side, we may have encounters with Great Blue Herons, river otters, and native trout.   • We require secure footwear for safety—no flip-flops or crocs. If needed, and upon request, we can provide neoprene river booties at no extra charge to keep your feet protected, covered, and warm.
  • Complimentary Shuttle Service: We offer shuttle service using our company vehicles to and from the river, not only saving you gas money but also adding convenience to your river trip experience.
  • After paddling the Racecourse, enjoy a hearty snack: chips & salsa, fruit, cookies, hummus, veggies, lemonade—plus our famous River Thai! A tasty reward before heading back to Santa Fe.
  • Upon request, we can provide splash tops at no extra charge! While not waterproof, they help block wind and light splashes—perfect for added comfort on cooler or breezy days out on the river.
  • Upon request, we offer sleeveless, full-leg neoprene wetsuits at no extra charge to keep you safe and warm—especially in spring!
